Boy Wonder – already an underground cult hit that has garnered 15 awards and been critically acclaimed during a limited theatrical run and at film and pop culture festivals across the country.

In this riveting and gritty film, a young boy witnesses the brutal murder of his mother during a Brooklyn car-jacking … leaving him to be raised by his alcoholic father (Bill Sage). Now a 17-year-old loner, Sean Donovan (Caleb Steinmeyer) is relentlessly haunted by his past and obsessed with finding his mother’s killer.

Drawn into a nocturnal urban underworld, Sean’s consuming rage is vented one night, defending himself from a chaotic attack by a drug dealer. Thus begins his life as a quiet, straight-A student by day and a self-appointed hero at night.

Investigating a series of vigilante murders, hot-shot new homicide detective Teresa Ames (Zulay Henao) – broken by her own troubled life – takes an interest in Sean and his case. Yet the closer Teresa gets, the more suspicious she becomes. Engaged in a twisting game of cat and mouse, Sean and Teresa become allies by day … and enemies by night.

But what is a real hero? Who decides what is right or wrong? As the boundaries between justice and vengeance blur, Sean’s dual life wears on his psyche and his two worlds careen dangerously close to colliding.

Acclaimed writer and director Terrence Malick brought us Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line and The New World. His thought provoking film experience hits a new level with The Tree of Life.

Screenhead held a giveaway for Malick’s The Tree of Life. The winner is JKrabble, who says “Malick is incredible. I can watch Badlands back to back.”

Sounds like a great night of movie JKrabble!

The award-winning movie is about a family and their relationships with each other, particularly the father and sons. The camera work is stunning. The cinematography and raw emotional power Malick’s hymn to life excavates answers to the most haunting and personal human questions through a kaleidoscope of the intimate and the cosmic, from the raw emotions of a family in a small Texas town to the wildest, infinite edges of space and time, from a boy’s loss of innocence to a man’s transforming encounters with awe, wonder and transcendence.

In one scene a dinosaur appears, and that threw me off and confused me a little bit. Obviously, Malick’s movie is not linear. The story is cyclic and weaves in and out as the director conveys his meaning to life.

The Blu-ray/DVD includes an exclusive 30-minute documentary on the making of the film, Exploring The Tree of Life, allows fans to dig even deeper into Malick’s visionary work and his cinematic legacy through interviews with his collaborators and cast members as well as with directors Christopher Nolan and David Fincher who share an appreciation for his work.

Under Malick’s careful direction The Tree of Life brings pleasure to the complicated and haunting powerhouse performances by Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and newcomer Jessica Chastain.

An impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950′s, the film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn), through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt).

The powers that be are calling The Elephant in the Living Room too big of a movie to ignore. I guess they are right because in the documentary we see a five hundred pound African lion attacking cars on a freeway, a sixteen foot Burmese Python in a restaurant parking lot and a panther running loose in a residential neighborhood.

The Elephant in the Living Room takes viewers on a journey deep inside the controversial subculture where the most dangerous animals on earth are kept as common household pets. Director Michael Webber follows Tim Harrison, a leading authority and the man responsible for the rescue and capture of “domesticated” exotic animals, as he works through the flood of calls he receives of dangerous predators roaming the inner-city and nearby suburbs. Tim deals with a ten-foot alligator walking through the streets of a mid-western town, a gaboon viper lurking in a garage and countless other sightings of cougars, tigers, lions, bears and reptiles.

The lives of two men intersect in the midst of this extraordinary film that brings light to the world of exotic pets. One, Tim Harrison, a police officer whose friend was killed by an exotic pet, and the other, Terry Brumfield, a man who is overcoming depression through a close connection with his pet African lion. Winner of five BEST DOCUMENTARY awards, The Elephant in the Living Room delivers the emotional story with exclusive interviews and never before seen footage of this highly controversial topic.
