The trailer is pretty dark, so I have a hard time seeing exactly what is going on in the story. I Saw the Devil was screened at Fantastic Fest with positive reviews. According to AICN, the movie is a must see for anyone who loves Korean revengeful movies.
This a red band trailer for mature audiences, but I didn’t find it too mature. That’s interesting since I have a weak stomach.
I Saw the Devil arrives in the States March 4, 2011.
Directed by Im Sang-soo, The Housemaid is based on Kim Ki-young’s 1960 black-and-white film The Housemaid. The original has been praised as one of the best Korean films of all time.
You can catch clips of the original movie on YouTube. It looks very different from this trailer, but the concept is the same.
The remake premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year and is being released unrated in limited theaters with an On Demand debut the next week. The movie stars Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sunshine). She plays a housemaid who happens to have an affair with the house owner.
