Shrek Forever After landed on top of Sex in the City 2 while Prince of Persia stayed below at third place. The rest of the top ten movies seem predictable, but Shrek being on top is a surprise for most movie goers.
Like the headlines say “moviegoers are still interested in ‘Sex’.”
The sequel Sex and the City 2 easily took the top spot yesterday, collecting an estimated $13.1 million. Added to the fact that Sex took an estimated $14.2 million on Thursday gives the girlie-girl movie a two day total of about $27.3 million.
On Friday, Sex beat both Shrek Forever After, which took in about $11.3 million, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which wrestled at third and earned almost $10.2 million.
Iron Man 2 went down one or two notches to fourth, earning about $4.2 million, while Robin Hood earned almost $2.8 million at fifth place.
Well, folks–it’s true. And as much as I may wish I weren’t here typing this right now, it’s just entirely too true to not write about.
If this doesn’t qualify as a sign of the Apocalypse it’s hard to tell what will, but Sarah Jessica Parker is reportedly hard at work filming the sequel to Sex and the City. And as much as it may make me cringe to even think about another foray into the upscale female version of a bad eighties movie, it’s no less there.
The scene she began filming features her emerging from the apartment she bought and sold with Big in the last go-round, and by all accounts, she’s looking happy. What exactly this means for the film is hard to tell, but one thing is clear enough–the game is on, whether we like it or not.
The Sex and the City sequel hits theatres May of 2010.
