William Hurt signed on “Damages” and will work with his “The Big Chill” co-star Glenn Close. What a caliber of actors on FOX Cable TV. This is Hurt’s first time he’s taken on a role in a TV series.
Hurt starts next week in New York. He plays a client of Close’s character – Patty Hewes – “tough as nails attorney.” Both characters have a past that is not just professional – whoa.
I am sure with Hurt added to the cast the show’s ratings will increase. As I recall in “The Big Chill” Hurt and Close did not have that many scenes together. So, this should prove to be a fruitful adventure.

Angela Bassett is set to join the cast of “E.R.” — Â the Emmy-winning medical drama as a regular for its final season.
According to Hollywood Reporter, in her first full-time series gig, Bassett will play a tough attendant with a troubled past who’s coming back to Chicago after a few years in Indonesia doing tsunami relief. Her arrival in the second episode next season promises to shake County General’s ER to the core.
“Angela is a wonderfully talented actress whom I’ve long hoped to work with,” said “ER” exec producer John Wells.
Another exciting note: Original cast member Noah Wyle will join “ER” for its 15th and final season. Wyle will guest star in at least four of the show’s planned 19 episodes.
Bassett, who starred in Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns,” recently wrapped the B.I.G. biopic “Notorious.”
